I want to thank Suvi for the incredible effort she has put into the editorial work with the journal and I wish her the best of luck for the future. From January 2022, I have been privileged to lead the editorial team. I am an evolutionary ecologist, working at Novia University of Applied Sciences, Finland, with close collaboration with Lund University, Sweden. Most of my research has concerned owls but I have also worked with other birds and topics in ecology.

Our editorial team currently consists of five associate editors, a technical editor and a communications editor. We will do our best to keep up the good work!

Thanks to the excellent work by the editors over a long period, Ornis Fennica is doing great. The pandemic has had some challenging impacts on peer-reviewing and scientific publishing in general, but we have done our best to keep up the high standards of the journal. The perhaps biggest change for 2022 is that we now have a brand new homepage and a new submission system via journal.fi, which we hope will streamline the submission process. A great thank you to Suvi and the whole Ornis Fennica team for making this happen!

Ornis Fennica has a stable impact factor thanks to a steady input of good quality submissions and an overall good reputation among ornithologists. As before, our aim is to maintain Ornis Fennica as an important and attractive platform for Fennoscandian and North European ornithologists to publish and follow avian research. Ornis Fennica will continue to publish analytical and experimental papers on the ecology, behaviour, biogeography and conservation of birds. Open science is becoming increasingly important and I believe that our strategy of full open access without any submission fees is appealing, and can be a definite competitive asset. We will continue to do our best to keep the decisions rapid. We are also investing more in social media coverage, which will help to reach an even larger audience. You can find Ornis Fennica on Facebook, and follow us on twitter (@OrnisF) to see the latest news!

I hope that you will continue to enjoy what Ornis Fennica has to offer. Please do not hesitate to contact me for new ideas, or for any further information about the journal. I look forward to an open discussion on how to best develop Ornis Fennica.

Kind regards,

Patrik Karell
2022-02-01T11:04:01+02:00https://ornisfennica.journal.fi/announcement/view/411News: New website, new publishing system, new Editor-in-Chief, but the same old Ornis Fennica!2022-01-30T14:53:48+02:00Ornis Fennica
Ornis Fennica has gone through some major changes.
